Our Mission
To help international visitors enjoy Japan's world-class powder safely, while minimizing preventable accidents and the life-changing financial risks of mountain rescues across the country.
Why We Started This Site
My history with Japan's mountains began 20 years ago when I first worked at a local ski resort. After two decades of snowboarding and eventually moving to the Nagano mountains this season, I was deeply saddened by the increasing news of off-piste accidents and rescues involving international tourists.
As someone who is still an active snowboarder, I couldn't just stand by. I realized that many visitors lack easy access to information about Japan's local rules and the actual costs of rescue operations. This site was created to bridge that information gap and keep the community safe, starting from the heart of the Japanese Alps.
About the Founder
HakubaSafety is operated by CalmPerc, an independent publisher based in Nagano, Japan.
After more than 20 years of snowboarding in Japan and previous experience working at a local ski resort, I now publish practical safety information for international skiers and snowboarders visiting Japan.
This website is independently operated and supported through carefully selected affiliate partnerships. Any product or service we recommend is chosen because we believe it provides value to visitors riding in Japan.
